Summer Camps & Programs
2019 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Summer Institute for the Arts (SIFTA)
The Summer Institute for the Arts (SIFTA) is a truly unique experience for artistic exploration and expression. It began in 2005 as a partnership between Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. and the Washington County Board of Education.
Our vision for the program is to see students collaborating with professional artists to create art in various forms, whether it be sculptures and paintings in Art in the Woods or a dance piece and song in Performing Arts Academy. We are certain that your student, no matter his or her existing skill level or talents, will find a place to create, share, and grow.
2019 Performing Arts Academy: TIME WARP!
Ages: Students entering grades 1-12 + graduating seniors (Ages 5-18)
2019 DATES: June 24-29 (9am-4pm)
Location: The Maryland Theatre, Hagerstown, MD
Each year, students bring a new and exciting theme to life on The Maryland Theatre stage. Students will explore many styles of dance, drama and music while celebrating the performing arts industry with pieces centered around this summer’s theme. Students will have fun preparing scenes, songs, and dances all while learning vocal technique, stage presence, acting, and choreography under ACT’s talented instructors. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and hard work to their family, friends, and community at the end of the week (at the fabulous Maryland Theatre) on Saturday.
Ages: Students entering Grades K-8
2019 Camp Dates: JULY 15-19 (9am-4pm)
Location: Doub’s Woods Park, Hagerstown, MD
Kids crank up their creativity through hands-on activities and art projects taught by professional and local artists. Students will experience a wide range of arts techniques, including sculpture, mixed media, printmaking, painting, drawing, collage, and ceramics. Art projects will be tailored to the skill sets in each age range. Students will get the chance to show off their masterpieces in an Artist Showcase on the last day of camp at 3:30 PM.
Ages: Students entering Grades 3-8
Camp Dates: July 22-26 & July 29-August 2
Performance: August 3rd
Location: Authentic Community Theatre
This summer intensive camp runs for 2 weeks from 9am-4pm at our ACT offices in Hagerstown. The students will audition two weeks before camp and be assigned parts to a FULL PRODUCTION! The two weeks will be spent rehearsing blocking, choreography, music, costumes and sets to complete a full production in just TWO WEEKS! The show will be performed the Saturday immediately following camp at one of our partner locations in Hagerstown.
Each summer, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc.’s Creative Arts Team brings an original “storytelling” to parks in Washington County. Authentic Community Theatre is also continuing its partnership with the Washington County Free Library System to present these original storytelling performances in several library branches to promote their Summer Reading Program! The performances are free to the public and geared to audiences of all ages!
