Programs
The ACT Youth Choir

The youth choir is a program that brings together ACT, Inc. and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County. The original choir started as a summer session but when met with success became a year round cooperation between the two organizations. The choir brings inspiring messages to the youth participants and allows the opportunity for creative expression through voice while simultaneously teaching vocal techniques and music theory. The 2011 summer session focused around the message of self respect and learning to support your friends and neighbors in troubled times.

Reminiscence Theatre

Reminiscence Theater is a program centered around intergenerational storytelling. In today’s world, our senior population is sometimes overlooked and brushed aside. Reminiscence Theater is an artistic tool used to pass on the wonderful stories that our elders have to share and hopefully in the process, encourage direct interaction between generations.

This fall, we are working with a group of seniors at First Christian Church to put together an original work focused on holiday memories.  Stay tuned for performance dates and times!

The Summer Institute for the Arts

The Summer Institute for the Arts (SIFTA) is a truly unique experience for artistic exploration and expression.  It began in 2005 as a partnership between Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. and the Washington County Board of Education, and has brought to life more than six original productions since its inception in 2005, including Alice in Maryland (2006), The Phantom Tollbooth (2007), and Never Land (2009)

Our vision for the program is to see students collaborating with professional artists to create art in various forms, whether it be sculptures and paintings in Art in the Woods or a dance piece and song in Music Academy.  We are certain that your student, no matter his or her existing skill level or talents, will find a place to create, share, and grow.

We have programs for children ages 5-18.

Please see our SIFTA page for details on this year's programs!

The Grant Writing Fellowship

The Grant Writing Fellowship is another partnership with the Washington County Board of Education.  The Fellowship program is an exclusive opportunity for high school students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program.  ACT's grant writing professionals put together a program to teach these students important skills, including technical writing, professional development, community analysis, and market research.

Storytelling in the Parks

Each summer, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc.'s Creative Arts Team brings an original "storytelling" to parks in Washington County.  The performances are free to the public and geared to audiences of all ages!

In 2011, we visited 6 different parks in Washington County for a total of 9 performances.  Stay tuned for our 2012 dates

Magical Journeys

Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. in partnership with the Washington County Board of Education brings ACT’s Creative Arts Team to Kindergarten classrooms to take students and teachers on a Magical Journey.

Performing artists will share their love of using their imaginations. Students and teachers are invited to do the same as they take a magical journey to Old MacDonald’s farm. The lesson leads the children to answer the questions, “Where can we go and what can we accomplish if we use our imaginations?”
